Fishtail braids look intricate, but they don't have to be complicated—or perfect. Go for an unkempt version like Ali Larter's. At an Art of Elysium event in Malibu, the actress braided her strands into a carefree plait, but left out tons of stray pieces to keep the look from feeling too fussy. Start with second-day hair, which is easier to work with since it's not as slippery. Add soft waves with a curling iron, then section into two pieces. Loosely intertwine sections from the outside of each half until you reach your ends. It's polished without being stiff.
